The Bilingual Nurse Aide Program Instructor is responsible for teaching English language learner students using Skillpoint’s approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) curriculum.  Curriculum content includes both technical hard skills necessary for passing the state Nurse Aide certification test and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the healthcare industry.  

Skillpoint’s training programs are grant-funded and designed to provide an entry-level pathway for underserved Central Texans facing barriers to employment.  Grant funding supports a limited number of programs. Program schedules may include day or evening hours. Class location will vary; classes are primarily held in South Austin.



Class Instruction:

  • Preparing lesson plans based on curriculum outlined by Texas Health and Human Services

  • Proctoring both tests and skill demonstrations according to Skillpoint Alliance and NATCEP procedures

  • Teaching courses as assigned, evaluating student performance, providing direct feedback to encourage student growth, and holding students accountable to program standards

  • Supervising and monitoring students’ use of equipment

  • Adhering to education regulations set forth by Skillpoint Alliance staff

  • Accepting recommendations for program improvement

  • Owning success of the program

Classroom management:

  • Communicating with Skillpoint Alliance staff about equipment and supply needs

  • Organizing, setting up, and maintaining equipment and supplies during class

  • Managing negative student behavior and encouraging positive behavior

  • Filing and organizing information for classes

  • Maintaining confidentiality of student information

  • Manage students during the clinical portion of the program

  • Communicate weekly with NATCEP RN Program Director to provide updates on student progress and adherence to schedule/curriculum



  • Current, non-restricted Texas Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse

  • Proficient in written and verbal Spanish and English

  • Prior experience helping others learn job tasks

  • Must have two years’ work experience in the long-term care/skilled nursing setting

  • Expertise in the healthcare industry

  • Prior teaching experience in an academic or leadership capacity or experience supervising nurses and/or certified nurse aides required

  • Experience teaching nurse aide students preferred

  • Emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.  This includes techniques for motivating others, providing/accepting constructive criticism, managing difficult people, and promoting teamwork

  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills, especially public speaking

  • A drive to innovate and improve; challenges the status quo and evaluates own performance

  • Desire to work with English language learners and to help them gain successful employment in the healthcare industry



  • Some amount of computer work is required

  • Work environment includes both classroom and clinical

  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of both classroom and clinical skilled nursing environments, including lifting 50+lbs and safely utilizing healthcare equipment

  • Able to work a flexible schedule

  • Requires local and occasional regional travel



  • Pay rate is hourly and based on experience

  • Instructor training is provided
