ABOUT SKILLPOINT ALLIANCE:

Skillpoint Alliance is a 501(c)3 social enterprise that serves local industry and the community through workforce training programs.  Skillpoint’s flagship program, Gateway, prepares participants for entry-level employment in high demand industries.

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Basic Construction Program Instructor is a temporary position in support of Spanish workforce training.  This position will be responsible for teaching at least two Basic Construction classes in Spanish, with topics including hand tools, power tools, construction mathematics, and others, using Skillpoint Alliance curriculum.  Classes are full-time, Monday through Friday, approximately four weeks per class.

 Reports To:  Director of Programs and/or Programs Lead

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Hard skills instruction responsibilities include:

  • Preparing lesson plans based on provided curriculum
  • Assisting with purchasing of classroom program supplies
  • Developing projects and activities based on provided curriculum topics
  • Supervising and monitoring participants’ use of tools and equipment
  • Adhering to education regulations set forth by Skillpoint Alliance staff
  • Proctoring both written tests and skill performance tests

 

Classroom management responsibilities include:

  • Communicating equipment and supply needs to Skillpoint Alliance staff
  • Organizing, setting up, and maintaining equipment and/or supplies during class
  • Managing negative participant classroom behavior and encouraging positive behavior

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified applicants will possess the following education, experience, and/or certification(s)/license(s):

  • 3 – 5 years of field experience working in a construction site, with technical-level knowledge and skills needed for successful instruction; supervisory experience preferred
  • Prior experience helping others learn job tasks
  • Expertise in the construction industry
  • Prior classroom teaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

●     Work environment includes both classroom and workshop spaces, requiring long periods of sitting or standing and safely using equipment commonly used in construction sites

●     Requires local and occasional, reimbursable regional travel, often with personal vehicle

 

COMPENSATION:

  • Pay rate is hourly, $25 - $30, depending on experience.
